The Wave Method was certified by INPI considering its significant impact on reducing CO2 emissions, low water consumption and circular economy
2023, August – In general, a patent is the right granted by the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) to the author or holder of a certain innovative technology, who may use it exclusively during a specific period. The green patent consists of a successful program developed by INPI with the aim of providing prioritization in the examination of patent applications that meet the requirement of high sustainability, in the areas of alternative energy, transport, conservation, waste management and agriculture. sustainable.
In the last two years, INPI has granted 4 green patents to New Wave, a global holding company focused on developing innovative and sustainable routes and technologies for the mining and steel sector, which guarantees the right to exclusive use of its technologies for the next two decades. One of the patents is directly linked to the development of a microwave reactor, capable of promoting the efficient and sustainable segregation of strategic minerals. The other patents are related to the use of this tool in the intelligent processing of ores such as nickel and bauxite.
With a sustainable bias, significant impact on reducing CO2 emissions, low water consumption and circular economy, the process developed by the brand, called the Wave Method, does not require the existence of a tailings dam, as it allows the reuse of deposited waste in existing dams and in dry piles of discarded ores. Finally, it also allows for an unprecedented segregation of different strategic minerals in a sustainable way, as 99% of the acids used are recycled and recirculated, without their dispersion in the environment.
The green technology developed by the company is used by Wave Nickel, a subsidiary of New Wave, which carries out the sustainable processing of nickel, a high-value ore for the global energy transition. Electrification is one of the main current demands, driven by the growing need for companies to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and improve their energy efficiency. The Wave Method is also used by the Wave Aluminum subsidiary, which processes bauxite waste in order to eliminate the need for tailings dams, which represent a constant threat to the environment and local communities.
Furthermore, the technology developed by New Wave integrates a concept that is currently very popular, “waste to value”, which refers to the transformation of waste that would otherwise be discarded into economically active resources. By adopting “waste to value”, companies promote the reuse of natural materials, preserve resources that have not yet been explored and encourage the creation of new business possibilities.
